Welcome to Wedding Wisdom! Every week, wedding planner Tami Smallwood-Brown, CEO of blush|WEDDING & EVENT PLANNING FIRM gives tips to help you plan your dream nuptials from engagement to “I do.” This week, Tami gives tips on fun wedding foods.
When planning a wedding, couples think of all kinds of ways to express themselves and their personalities. Such a large part of our culture, families, and lives are food! Gone are the days of the standard chicken or beef, starch and vegetable wedding meal. Think outside the box and give your guest an amazing wedding food experience.
Use your cocktail hour as a fun time to present your childhood faves. Who doesn’t have nostalgic memories of macaroni and cheese or grilled cheese sandwiches as a kid? At my wedding, we choose to serve chicken tenders, one of my husband’s favourites. To bring these dishes to your Big Day, work with your caterer to design a creative presentation. Look at these unique ways to present some of your favourite comfort food:
Mac & cheese for cocktail hour
Pancakes for a brunch reception
Grilled cheese and tomato soup for cocktail hour or a late-night snack
Instead of a traditional served or buffet-style meal…opt for cool stations. Who doesn’t like pizza? As long as your event has a casual feel, this would be a hit with your guests! Consider a create-your-own pizza station. Your caterer can work out the details and add an attendant or two to manage the station.
Waffle bar for brunch
Food trucks are perfect for the couple with an outdoor event who loves to try all types of food. Now this is a trend I could get used to! Get your guests moving, mingling, and trying foods from your favorite local food trucks. And don’t forget about the cupcake truck for dessert! Give your guests various truck options for optimal results.
The best advice I can give is to have fun with your food selections. Treat your guest to delicious versions of your favourite comfort foods and let them have a peek into your personalities!
