Congratulations!! You are newly engaged and are excited! Here are 10 steps to get help you get your wedding planning underway!
1. TELL EVERYONE!!
Shout it from the rooftops… YOU ARE GETTING MARRIED!! Wohooo. Send out announcement cards, update your facebook relationship status, phone your friends, tweet it, instagram your ring, put an announcement in the paper, tell your office, text your bestie…. have a PARTY!!
2. PUT A RING ON IT.
If you have yet to choose a ring, get on it :-) You won’t feel properly engaged until you have that engagement ring. Scour local jewellers, the internet, ask your family if there are any heirloom rings, go to antiques fairs or have one made (or make your own).
3. CHOOSE A DATE.
Sit down with your fiance, and decide when you want to get married. Do you need to save? Or are you ready to go for it? Do you want a pretty Spring wedding, or a candlelit Christmas affair? Do you want to plan everything quickly, or do you want to take your time over the planning. Ring the date in the calender.
4. CHOOSE THE WEDDING PARTY.
Decide if you want a best man, ushers, bridesmaids et al. If you do start thinking about who you would like to ask. Discuss as a couple and ask them :-) If you want your loved ones to help it’s a great idea to ask now, before you start planning all the details.
5. SET A BUDGET.
6. DECIDE ON THE CEREMONY.
Are you religious, and would like your ceremony to reflect that? Or are you looking for something simple at the registry office. Perhaps you envisage getting married on a beach in a humanist ceremony, or would like a blessing. There are so many options out there, there is something for everyone. But don’t forget the laws on getting married in the UK.
7. FIND YOUR VENUE.
Now you know if you are looking for a village hall, a field for a tent, a 5* London hotel or a stately home. You can start searching for your perfect venue. Ask around, drive around, search the net, look in the local paper. Do you have a favourite place you love to go? Check them out, visit together, and discuss.
8. SAVE THE DATE.
Send out your save the dates. Either electronically or via some pretty paper. You want your guests to be able to make your day, especially if it is a year or more away and you are not ready to send out your invitations.
